Finance and insurance glossary.

This glossary will be about words that I can find in my field of study. As a finance and insurance student, those words will surely be part of my daily life.Every word in this glossary is related to finance and insurance .You may also find those words during your life since they are also useful for your wallet management. .

Bank
noun
A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits from the public and creates a demand deposit while simultaneously making loans
Example: The options available to PCD Maltron for sources if finance are bank Loans, Venture Capitalism and Business Angels.

bankruptcy
noun
A legal process through which people or other entities who cannot repay debts to creditors may seek relief from some or all of their debts. In most jurisdictions, bankruptcy is imposed by a court order, often initiated by the debtor.
Example: Furthermore, 95 per cent of its capital had been liabilities and when the Russian bond market collapsed as consequence of a threatening bankruptcy of Russia, the prices of the bonds hold by LTCM differed further away from the fair historical values computed by complex computer programs.

It is an instrument of indebtedness of the bond issuer to the holders. The most common types of bonds include municipal bonds and corporate bonds.
Example: An integrated capital market would also reduce the cost of equity, bond and bank finance and lead to a rise in Europe-wide GDP growth by 1.1 per cent.

Wealth in the form of money or other assets owned by a person or organization or available or contributed for a particular purpose such as starting a company or investing.
Example: FINANCE PCD Maltron needs some considerable investment capital to get at that global market and supply it.

A commercial business.

A written or spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by law.
Example: In a Edgeworth box the contract curve would be the diagonal if one of the countries' endowment point coincided with , implying a linear PPF.

A person or company to whom money is owed.
Example: Of concern to us as suppliers are the higher creditor days, but from a wider perspective there are problems with sales margins, profit per employee and returns to shareholders, amongst a number of other things.

Something, typically money, that is owed or due.
Example: Similarly, the ratio of volatile capital flows (defined to include cumulative portfolio inflows and short-term debt) to reserves declined from 146.6 per cent as at end-March 1991 to 38.2 percent at end-March 2003 (International Financial Statistics, Budget reports).

Example: Seeing as it is more likely that PCD Maltron would be accepted by Venture Capitalists than Business Angels I recommend them to try Venture Capitalists to fund their expansion.

Example: Foreign exchange reserves are considered as insurance in times of crisis and go a long way towards building confidence in the financial system.

Money paid regularly at a particular rate for the use of money lent, or for delaying the repayment of a debt.
Example: In PCD Maltron's case this is bad news; as the company is not very well established the security they can offer is quite low and so the interest charged on the loan would probably not justify taking the loan out.

The action or process of investing money for profit or material result.
Example: A possibly worthwhile investment which should be studied further is the expansion of the firm's facilities, particularly the acquisition of larger storage tanks.

A thing that is borrowed, especially a sum of money that is expected to be paid back with interest.

Example: The benefits of and reasons for change should be clearly explained to employees (i.e. because of a tougher market place - the change will safeguard the business and employment).

Example: Borrowing from banks has an advantage which would seem important to the owner in that there is no effect on control ownership of the company.

The state of having, owning, or controlling something.
Example: As such, in my opinion, businesses that are in possession of such quantitative information are more able to plan and decide strategically.

noun
An amount to be paid for an insurance policy.
Example: Unfortunately the premium price charged can attract other firms to the market which happened within our industry and undermined our product.

noun
The capital raised by a business or corporation through the issue and subscription of shares.
Example: Similarly, the bottle supply for the detergents will be considered fixed and at full stock, though this may need confirming, due to possible re-ordering problems left behind from the previous management.

trade
noun
The action of buying and selling goods and services.
Example: There is also a clear exit route available, which the Venture Capitalist company will need to be able to see, and that it is to do a merger (trade sale) with the low cost assembler.
